Washington Technology Industry Association Names Yapta 2008 Consumer Product of the Year

Innovative Airfare Tracking and Refund Alert Service Recognized for Delivering Unparalleled Value to Consumers

Seattle – February 8, 2008 – Yapta, Inc. (, an online travel shopping service that tracks airline ticket pricing for leisure and business travelers, today announced that it has been named the “2008 Consumer Product or Service of the Year” by the Washington Technology Industry Association. For the past 13 years, the Washington Technology Industry Association has honored Washington-based companies, agencies and individuals who best demonstrate innovation and excellence in technology.

Yapta was selected as the Consumer Product or Service of the Year for its innovative airfare tracking and alert service and the extraordinary value it delivers to online travel shoppers. Travelers utilizing the Yapta service can track airfare prices from most major airline websites and be alerted when the price on a specific flight drops.

As travelers shop airline websites for flights, Yapta helps them bookmark the most appealing itineraries and performs multiple price-checks per day on those particular flights, then issues an email alert if the price drops or falls within a desired spending limit. By enabling travelers to bookmark specific trips and receive automated price drop alerts, Yapta not only helps them obtain the best available price, but also simplifies the online travel planning process by storing all preferred flights in a single, online list with updated fares.

Bringing to light pro-consumer “guaranteed airfare policies” offered by most major domestic airlines, the service also alerts travelers when they are eligible for travel vouchers – and in some cases, cash refunds – when a lower ticket fare becomes available after purchase. Since the launch of the service in May 2007, travelers have used Yapta to bookmark more than $250 million worth of flight itineraries and have been alerted to approximately $23 million in potential airfare savings.

“Being named this year’s Consumer Product or Service of the Year Award is an honor and a reflection of the tremendous value that Yapta has delivered to travelers in just a short period of time,” said Tom Romary, CEO of Yapta. “As consumer demand for a simplified online travel shopping experience and greater airfare price transparency continues to grow, more and more travelers are turning to Yapta as their personal travel assistant. By giving travelers simple price assurance and the confidence to buy their tickets early, Yapta can help anyone – from leisure travelers to business travelers – get the most out of their online trip planning.”
